In short, energy efficient new homes are a great way to go solar because they already use less energy, so the solar system is able to offset a greater percentage of the home’s power load. Also, new construction installation is less expensive compared to retrofits, and builder’s incentives are stronger than residential incentives in Oregon. The roughly $30 per month added to your mortgage for a solar system is quickly offset in your average monthly energy savings. And, that savings is compounded by rapidly inflating energy rates.
